Local Seafood Processor and Distributor, Central Coast Seafood, participates in Monumental Sustainability Summit!
San Luis Obispo - 200 to 300 delegates from around the world are expected to attend a conference focused on sustainability efforts in the seafood industry October 20th and 21st in San Francisco. Central Coast Seafood President Giovanni Comin will be a guest speaker at this “Multi-Stakeholder” event sharing his expertise and historical observation of San Luis Obispo County’s fishing industry. Mr. Comin has played an integral part in the recent progress in communication and cooperation between environmentalist groups such as the Nature Conservancy and the remaining fishing industry in Morro Bay. As the only seafood distributor in the United States declaring a commitment to consumer education along with reducing “red” items from its product list, Central Coast Seafood is taking its role in the sustainable movement very seriously. This Sustainable Seafood Multi-Stakeholder Summit has extended an invitation to national retailers such as Whole Foods and Target with the intent of bringing as many high-impact seafood producers, distributors and buyers to a table where they have one common interest…the preservation of fisheries loved by consumers and vital to the seafood industry.
Other confirmed speakers include representatives from Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the Sustainable Fisheries Division of NOAA Fisheries Service, the World Wildlife Fund – California Marine Office, the North Pacific Fisheries management Council, and many Sustainability representatives from significant salmon suppliers within the industry such as Calkins and Burke Ltd and Lusamerica Foods, Inc.
